Livin' the High Life

Want some home cookin'? Don't want to DO the home cookin'? Then stop over to  The High Life Lounge. Almost everyone can find something on this menu that they will enjoy. Definitely not known for their healthy options but known for a tasty American meal and an easy going time.

For those of you that don't know, the "Lounge" is a bar that doesn't serve any beer NOT made prior to 1979. They celebrate the old school and sometimes moniker-ed crappy beers. The bar also looks like a basement from the 70s featuring plenty of very old wall decor in the form of beer signs. The clientele ranges from 1-200 years old (families and REALLY old people are welcome).

As usual, I started eating before I took the picture so the ite only shows about half the portion given
This trip I got the Macaroni and Cheese. It is what it is, which is simple and great. It uses possibly the same exactly macaroni noodles from the blue box recipe but a better tasting cheese. Just the right creaminess and richness in my opinion. Other places in Des Moines feature great Mac and Cheese dishes (Django & Centro). They are good, very rich....and not $5.45. The roll was pretty good as well.

So High Life is great for cheap beer, cheap greasy food and a laid back atmosphere. If you in the mood for a fancy, high quality dining experience...you will want try somewhere else. But if you love America, you owe it to yourself to stop by and live the high life.

What are your favorite High Life dishes?
